Bio
Jason is best known to UK and Australian audiences for his role as the Judge on the hit show Dancing on Ice (Granada/ITV). However it is his participation on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy UK, Red Carpet Moments and Specials on E! Entertainment that have given him a truly international audience in 120 countries.
He is originally from Melbourne Australia but made London his home for over 12 years. Born in Melbourne and adopted at the age of just 6 months, it was clear very early on that he was different from the other boys. He longed to be a performer on the stage from the age of 5. "I was always putting on shows directing and choreographing my less than enthusiastic cousins and probably boring the hell out of my family in the process." At 12, he wrote and submitted his first musical and was the youngest ever applicant to attend The Workshop in Sydney. His time spent there truly opened his eyes, he calls it, "a life defining experience, no longer was I the only freak in the village, this was when I decided that I wanted to be in this business called Show."
At 16 he began his professional career in the original Australian cast of 42nd Street and has gone on to perform in over 20 award winning musicals including Cats, Chicago, West Side Story, Oklahoma and My Fair Lady to name a few over the past 17 years, fulfilling his dream to perform in London's prestigious West End. His dancing and choreography skills took him to theatres across Europe, Asia and the US. Whilst in Asia he formed his own production company The Creative Production Group based in Hong Kong which used his talents for stage production and style to create corporate and fashion shows throughout South East Asia. As a choreographer and dancer he has worked with the industries biggest names including Dame Shirley Bassey Live at the Albert Hall, Kylie, Cher, Rosanne Barr, Emma Bunton and Elton John. Also choreographing commercials as diverse as Championship Snooker to Pregnancy Week Campaign.
His vocal recordings include cast albums from most of the above productions and also Oliver, A Chorusline, La Cage aux Folles and also plays Alonzo in the movie adaptation of Cats. He is well known in the Dance Music world, this time behind the scenes with his infectious hit Sounds of the City which he wrote and produced with Nick Tcherniak under their own label White Knights in November 2008. In August 2009 he released his second hit REPLAY which stormed both the UK Dance and Pop charts. He is currently working on his debut album.
Whilst performing in Sir Trevor Nunn's award winning Anything Goes in 2004, he was cast as the Culture Expert on UK version of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. He was forced to make a decision that would alter his life forever and after much deliberation he chose to leave theatre for a career in TV. That decision proved to be fruitful. The UK version of Queer Eye was the first American format to be sold back to the US and shown on Bravo attracting the attention of the heads of E! Entertainment who asked him to cover the red carpet for all London film premieres. This in turn led him to co-hosting specials for the Academy Awards, BAFTAs and two exclusive interviews with the legendary Hugh Hefner at the infamous Playboy mansion.
Jason's distinctive flair for fashion, sharp eye and brutally honest opinions allowed him on board ITVs This Morning, critiquing the style attempts of celebrities for Beat the Stylist segment. This was followed up, due to his popularity with their viewers and his success on Dancing on Ice, with a new segment created especially for him, Dancing with Jason. This time using his choreography/dance talents to teach viewers along with Fern and Phil to perform the Latin American dances with hilarious results.
With the relaunch of This Morning on September 1st 2009, Jason joined the new team as their style and fashion guru. His practical approach and keen sense of style has breathed new life into their fashion segments as he entertainingly shows viewers twice a week how to look simply fabulous.
Jason is currently creating a new musical with Robin Miller (Dames at Sea, Vanity Fair) which will go into production next year.
